Our objective is to train teachers to conduct SASMO Maths Olympiad workshops for students. They will get teaching materials as well as learn how to conduct the Maths Olympiad Contests. This workshop is helpful to upper primary maths teachers.
This year over 1000 students participated in the Singapore and ASEAN Schools Maths Olympiad. We are targeting to reach at least 3000 students with your support next year. The contests will be run in 2 sessions in April 2009 so that results can be released by mid May for students to use their results to apply for Direct School Admissions (DSA).
Maths Olympiads (MOEMS) was created in 1977 by the late Dr. George Lenchner, an internationally known Math educator. Over 150,000 students from 5,000 teams worldwide participate in the Olympiads. Noble has been appointed by MOEMS, a not for profit organization to set-up and run the ASEAN affiliate. Noble set-up Singapore and ASEAN Schools Maths Olympiads (SASMO) to run competitions across ASEAN and developed a website, www.mathsolympiads.org to run this program.
SASMO is devoted and dedicated to bringing a love for Mathematics to the children in Primary schools. Unlike most Maths Olympiads, SASMO caters to upper primary students in the top 40%. It aims to stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm for problem solving and to develop their mathematical intuition and logical thinking. This can also help improve the students’ school maths grades because they apply problem solving strategies learnt during the training to their school maths.
SASMO awards medallions and certificates to the top 30%. Entry cost is $18 per pupil. Best of all, no traveling is required as the contests are held in your school.
We confirm that we are the sole developer of this program. Please call the undersigned at 64768681 if you have any query. We look forward to working with you to develop better maths students’ through contests.
