Are you ready for the first day of School?
The 3 most important words to a teacher are Preparation, Preparation, Preparation.
A cluttered or barren classroom sends a negative message to your pupils. A well- organized, attractive room gives an “in-control” image that students respect. It is imperative that you have your room ready and inviting before the students come on the first day of school - Dr. Harry Wong, Author - The First Days of School |

HOW TO DECORATE A CLASS ROOM
A visually rich classroom can be inspiring, welcoming, and supportive of student learning. It is a vital ingredient for Teacher success. |
| STEPS : |
| |
1 |
Go down to a store that specializes in classroom deco. Noble Education at Blk 115A, Commonwealth Drive, #04-24 (3 minutes walk from Commonwealth MRT, stocks a lot of decorative materials to enhance your classroom. Visit them at their store for the best price or call Linda (64768681), Dina (92380792) or Henry (90672766) to arrange for them to do a sales display at your school |
|
| |
2 |
Think about who you're decorating for. Identify the level, subjects taught, and cultural context of the students. What else comes to mind? National events like Youth Olympics, Exams, National Day, Racial Harmony Day, etc? |
|
| |
3 |
Establish what wall space and materials are available. (Some teachers use the hallways outside their classrooms as well for large art projects.) Create a theme to engage the whole class on improvement. Such as aim for 95% and above on class assignments – on an incentive chart or incentive banner. |
|
| |
4 |
Involve the students. The best decorating of all is that done by the students themselves. If you can connect classroom assignments with visual projects, done with lots of colour and strong graphic design elements, (titles, borders, matting, and composition, for example), then your room will be the envy of all the teachers. |
|
| |
5 |
Prepare in advance. If it's the beginning of the year, consider painting a section of a wall a neutral color for 'gallery' display. Consider using a digital camera to take pictures of your students and the community, do simple digital altering with hue and saturation to make them colorful, laminate, and put them up. |
|
| |
6 |
Do your research. There are numerous online sites which help with classroom deco. |

TIPS : |
|
| |
1 |
Be original! Let your interests and passions be a part of the decorating too. You can share yourself with the students. If you are really stuck, ask local artists to come in and brainstorm with you. We love to promote arts in the community. |
|
| |
2 |
Think outside the box: Christmas lights, fabric/quilts, plants. Ask yourself: "What feels good to look at?" and bring it in. |
