PRESS RELEASE 22 October 2004
Brain teasers go into action at Victoria School's Mind Sports Day competition
Last week on 20 October, with the final exams out of the way, Victoria School's 335 students from nine Secondary 1 classes assembled in the school hall at 8 am for an unusual diversion.
Divided into groups of 3-4, the students were set to play games and solve puzzles at three designated game stations IQ LogicTM, Mind's EyeTM which lists 10 problem posers, and IQ Puzzle ChallengeTM which comprises 50 puzzles. Henry the game master from Noble Education.com, laid down the rules clearly. Facilitators were on duty at the game stations. After the briefing and with all eyes on the clock, Henry signalled the start of the games at 8.30 am. The Mind Sports Day (MSD) competition got underway.
Mrs Wong Li Meng, Subject Head (Mathematics) said: 'We wanted to further stimulate the creative and critical thinking skills in our students and at the same time let them have fun. Last year's feedback from students and teachers was positive and so we decided to have the Mind Sports Day again for our Sec 1 students this year.
Last week's MSD event had more prizes in store worth over $1000 for the top seven groups from each of the three stations, that is, 21 groups of winners! With about 84 groups competing, that meant a quarter of the participants stood a good chance at winning the prizes. Still, no student went home empty-handed because everyone received a mini-puzzle, courtesy of Noble Education.com the MSD organisers.
